How to Plan an Easy Game Night for Two

A relaxed at-home game night for couples that takes about an hour and works with cards, a board game, or a cooperative game.

Time: 45–75 minutesWho it’s for: For adult couples
A couple plays a relaxed card game together at home.

What you’ll need

  • One game you both agree to play
  • Optional drinks or simple snacks

The easiest game night starts with a game both people are willing to play. It does not need a special setup, and it does not need to last all evening.

Keep it enjoyable

  1. Each person suggests one game, then choose together.
  2. If the game is new, agree to treat the first round as practice.
  3. Put routine notifications aside for one hour.
  4. Decide before starting whether you want a competitive or cooperative game.
  5. Stop after a good round rather than continuing until one person is tired or annoyed.

Cards, a two-player board game, a word game, or a cooperative puzzle can all work. If one partner cares much more about winning, choose a cooperative option or play toward a shared score.
